Consumer Fair Trading & Consumer Data Policy

Official platform: SOQ International Academy (soq.edu.sg)
Organisation: SOQ International Academy Pte. Ltd. (UEN 201723514D)
Effective date: 14 September 2026 (Singapore law review update)
Primary laws: Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act 2003 (“CPFTA”); Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977; Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (“PDPA”); applicable PEI / student contract rules
Disputes: See Terms — negotiation then SIAC arbitration seated in Singapore, with Small Claims / PEI / regulator carve-outs

This Policy explains how SOQ International Academy treats consumers fairly when selling courses and platform services in Singapore, and how consumer-related data is handled alongside our Data Protection Policy.

1. Who is a consumer

For this Policy, a “consumer” includes individuals who purchase or enquire about courses, subscriptions, or related services from SOQ for personal learning or career development, and (where applicable) individuals whose fees are employer-sponsored but who personally use the Services.

2. Fair trading commitments (CPFTA)

SOQ aims to avoid unfair practices. We will use reasonable efforts to:

  • Present course titles, fees, schedules, and material conditions accurately
  • Show GST clearly where applicable
  • Avoid false claims about accreditation, funding, salaries, job guarantees, or outcomes
  • Avoid fake reviews, fabricated testimonials, or deceptive AI-generated marketing
  • Avoid dark patterns that trick you into unwanted purchases or subscriptions
  • Honour stated cooling-off, withdrawal, and refund rules for the product you bought

3. Pre-contract information

Before you pay or sign, you should be able to see or obtain:

  • Course name and key learning outcomes (summary)
  • Fee amount, GST, and known compulsory charges
  • Delivery mode (in-person, online, hybrid) and location/platform
  • Material attendance/assessment requirements (or a link to Student Policy)
  • Contact details for SOQ International Academy

For PEI Diploma programmes, the PEI–Student Contract and related disclosures apply in addition to this Policy.

4. Pricing, payments, and receipts

  • The price confirmed at checkout or in your written contract is the price for that transaction.
  • Payment gateways process card/e-payment data; SOQ receives payment confirmation and billing metadata needed for accounting and support.
  • Invoices/receipts are issued according to our finance processes. Corporate invoices may be issued to sponsoring companies on request.

5. Cancellations, withdrawals, and refunds

Refund and reschedule rules depend on the product:

  • Short courses / workshops / platform purchases — as stated at checkout, on the course page, or in confirmation email
  • Funded / PEI programmes — Student Policy and PEI–Student Contract prevail

See Student Policy. If information conflicts, the more specific programme contract controls for that programme.

6. Consumer data (how we use it)

“Consumer data” means personal data collected in the course of browsing, enquiring, purchasing, enrolling, or complaining. We use it to:

  • Complete transactions and deliver the Services
  • Provide customer support and handle disputes
  • Detect fraud, chargebacks, and abuse
  • Improve products and fix defects
  • Send service messages; send marketing only where permitted

We do not sell consumer data. Details, rights, and DPO contact are in the Data Protection Policy.

7. AI and consumer protection

Where AI is used in recommendations, chat help, or marketing creation, we apply our AI Use & Transparency Policy. AI must not be used to mislead consumers about price, quality, reviews, or guaranteed outcomes.

8. Complaints and disputes (Singapore)

  1. Contact Academy Support: academy@soq.edu.sg or +65 6996 3383
  2. Provide your full name, order/enrolment reference, and a clear description of the issue
  3. We aim to acknowledge promptly and work toward a fair resolution within the negotiation period in our Terms and Conditions

If unresolved, contractual disputes are generally referred to SIAC arbitration seated in Singapore under our Terms. For access-to-justice reasons, consumers may instead use the Small Claims Tribunals where the claim is within that tribunal’s jurisdiction. Mandatory PEI dispute routes (if any) still apply. You may also seek assistance from CASE (consumer) or PDPC (personal data). Arbitration does not stop you from complaining to those bodies.

9. Platform licence vs course purchase

Buying a course or user seat gives access rights described in our Terms and Conditions. It does not transfer ownership of SOQ software, trademarks, or courseware IP. See the Intellectual Property & Trademark Notice.

10. Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. The current version will be posted on this page with its effective date.
